When home computers came onto the market in the early 1980s, Andy was the very proud owner of an Oric 1 (and you probably have to be a certain age to remember those!). He taught himself the BASIC programming language, and loved writing his own code, but it was when Windows 95 was launched that everything changed for him.
“It was just so exciting,” remembers Andy. “In the early days of computing everything was in black and white (UNIX and MS-DOS), but Windows 95 was such a big leap in how we interacted with computers. When Microsoft did a launch and PC World opened their doors at midnight, I was one of those queuing at the doors for my copy of Windows 95!”...Unsurprisingly, when Andy got to university, his degree was in Computer Science. After leaving, he worked for a number of companies, but running through all this was his passion for Microsoft technologies.
“In the early days I worked for a company called Comtec, and alongside my normal job, they also put me through Microsoft certification training,” says Andy. “I became what’s called a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), but I also trained up to be a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT). Then I was able to train up other IT professionals on how to design, implement and manage networks.”
Outside of OfficeTek, Andy enjoys travelling, running, and hitting the gym. When he’s got some very rare spare time, he can occasionally be found putting pedal to the metal on go-kart tracks.
Callum Like Andy, Callum has been passionate about computers and programming since he was very young, and came to work at OfficeTek straight from a course in Software Design. Coding is something that Callum remains interested in, and one of his main interests outside of work is designing and writing his own software.
Callum is also fond of exercise and socialising with friends. He’s heavily involved in the Scouting movement. Callum has also always loved teaching and supporting others, and he’s been a swimming teacher and a lifeguard as well as a Scout leader.
“I’ve always loved travelling,” says Callum, “and I’ve been lucky enough to go on events with the Scouts quite a few times now. It’s always fun, especially when we go to a different country that takes us out of our comfort zone.”
When he’s not at work, Matthew loves nothing more than relaxing with Netflix and binging on a few box sets. One of the most reassuring things about having OfficeTek as your IT support supplier is knowing there are highly trained professionals like Matthew waiting for your call.
